{"id":257,"date":"2012-10-04T13:17:26","date_gmt":"2012-10-04T17:47:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.barbarabald.com\/?p=257"},"modified":"2016-10-04T13:18:39","modified_gmt":"2016-10-04T17:48:39","slug":"risk-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.barbarabald.com\/?p=257","title":{"rendered":"Risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Like clothespins holding socks on a backyard line,<br \/>\nor nylon knots between beads of a hand-made necklace,<br \/>\npigeons perch high above the city skyline.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Each blue-black marker holds a space,<br \/>\nas if hands took pains to order them,<br \/>\nplaced them with a precision<br \/>\nthat prevents pecks and squabbles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Is it instinct that positions pigeons so?<br \/>\nOr did they, like us, learn it was safer to stand apart?<br \/>\nIs it respect or survival that dictates space?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As sentinels surveying the scene,<br \/>\ntheir feet grasp lines that transport pulses,<br \/>\ncarry our stories, our longings to connect.<br \/>\nThey teeter on criss-crossing telephone wires<br \/>\nthat allow us to technically touch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Perhaps it is stepping too close to one another that parts us,<br \/>\nperhaps stepping closer would prevent it.<br \/>\nOn this wire I long to see<br \/>\none brave, or foolish, bird sidle up to another,<br \/>\nan avian Gandhi willing to risk a poke<br \/>\nor a peck on the cheek.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like clothespins holding socks on a backyard line, or nylon knots between beads of a hand-made necklace, pigeons perch high above the city skyline.
